Alex Newell spent the first 25 years of her life not feeling connected to her body. She was never good at sports, and felt lost at the gym- she didn’t know what her body was capable of, or how to find out. It wasn’t until her first hot yoga class that she finally seemed to have discovered a pathway in. Totally hooked, she began attending regular Bikram yoga classes, and found that the practice built her strength, awareness, confidence, and most importantly, her knowledge of herself. By the end of 2007, Alex had completed a 500-hour hot yoga teacher certification through Sunstone Yoga in Dallas, TX. A former actress and singer, she found that her ability to move people with her words, painting a verbal picture of the experience, led to powerful experiences for her and her students. Her classes are praised as energetic, creative, informative, and fun.
In 2009, Alex began her studies into Anusara Yoga®, after experiencing the profound effects that the style’s philosophies and methods had on her practice on and off the mat. She was honored to receive her Anusara Inspired® status in 2011, after studying with senior teachers BJ Galvan, Christina Sell, Darren Rhodes, and founder John Friend.
A dedicated student of anatomy, biomechanics, and neurophysiology, Alex’s goal is to empower each of her students to honor and celebrate the uniqueness of their individual body. Through private evaluations and the use of Muscle Activation Techniques™, Alex helps guide her students through safe and effective explorations of their practice. She also offers biomechanics and advanced anatomy workshops, children’s yoga, and Pilates Mat classes. She currently splits her time between Los Angeles and Mount Desert Island, Maine.
